Accommodation Deer Valley

Deer Valley Resort is an amazing place to stay and as you’d expect, accommodation is more expensive than most in the country. The bigger hotels have on-site rentals, retail shops, world-class spa facilities, restaurants and bars. Staff will take care of your skis, stocks and boots overnight, then ensure they’re dry, warm, and in place on the snow ready for your start in the morning. In short, here there’s everything you need from morning to night.
Much of the accommodation is up in the Silver Lake Lodge area (8100ft; 2469m), where it takes advantage of the mountain layout and is ski-in ski-out. St Regis and Montage Deer Valley is also home to some hotels.
The bigger hotels cater well to kids with childcare facilities and great supervised activities to keep them entertained while you ski or relax. An in-house bowling alley and games rooms are just some of the options.
There are a few mid-range condo complexes within a few minutes of the Snow Park Lodge base area, many with frequent shuttle services to get you to and from the chair lifts.

Skiing & Boarding

Along with the luxurious facilities, Deer Valley is much loved for its perfectly groomed off piste areas, lack of lift lines (the number of lift tickets sold each day is capped) and prohibition of snow boarders.
Spanning six mountains over 2,026 acres and serviced by 22 chair Deer Valley is a vast resort with plenty to explore. The terrain is varied and most suited to beginners to advanced skiers, with less options for experts.
If you’re a beginner, you’ll find the most fun around the Snow Park Base where there are gentle slopes and easy progression to more difficult runs.
Intermediates will get huge satisfaction from the incredible groomed blue and black runs, as well as some of the off-piste options between the runs on the Northside. For advanced skiers, there are some double black glades on Bald Mountain and Flagstaff Mountain, and the treelined Daly Bowl and Chutes.
If you’re looking for lessons, Deer Valley’s award-winning ski school offers programs for kids and adults, with exceptional instructor to child ratios.Deer Valley gets an average annual snowfall of 7.5 metres – a bit less than other resorts in Utah – however it tends to stick around for longer because of the limited number of skiers. About 30% of the terrain is topped up with man-made snow.
Beware that this is a massive mountain to explore via multiple lifts and traversing, with limited signage. However, Guest Service Attendants are scattered throughout the resort, ready to offer advice or assistance.

Activities

When it comes to entertaining the kids, there are plenty of options, like dog sledding, snowmobiling and sleigh rides, hot air ballooning, winter fishing, and even a mountain railroad adventure.
When you venture into Park City, you’ll find Gorgoza Park, home to super fun tubing and mini-snowmobile rides. There’s also loads of fun for the entire family at Utah Olympic Park.
With so many fabulous restaurants and bars located within the hotels, there’s very little need to venture off-site for dining during your stay at Deer Valley. However, Park City downtown offers some great restaurants and bars as well as inspirational window shopping.

Getting There & Around

Deer Valley Resort is easy to get to. Located just beyond Park City, it’s a fast 45-minute drive from Salt Lake City airport via one of the many shared shuttle services or private transfer.
There are plenty of airlines flying into Salt Lake City from almost every major city as well as many smaller ones.
If you’re staying at Park City, most of the hotels have free on-demand shuttles. There’s also a free public transport system that operates on frequent schedules.
Beware that Deer Valley can be extremely busy during holidays and during The Sundance Film Festival in the second last week of January. Accommodation prices rise, and hotels book out.
