About 10 metres of snow falls here each year and that’s topped up by snowmaking across 33% of the runs. Accommodation MammothMammoth has several base areas spread across the mountain, so before you book your accommodation, be sure it’s in an area with the facilities you need. The resort offers a huge range of accommodation, from traditional lodges and motels through to dive bars, five-star hotels and condos.Staying in a condo in the pedestrian friendly Village at Mammoth provides the greatest convenience with shops, restaurants and bars at your door. Although it’s not right on the slopes, you’ll be just a few minutes from the Village Gondola that will get you there. If you’re travelling with kids, consider a lodge or condo near the Main Day Lodge. Here you’ll be close to the ski school and beginner slopes, and able to get back to town via shuttle. Skiing & BoardingMammoth is California’s biggest ski areas with 150 marked trails over 1,400 hectares of skiable terrain accessible by 28 lifts.There’s something for every skier and boarder here – 25% of the marked trails are for beginners, 40% for intermediates and the remainder for experts. The longest run is a gruelling 4.8km with a nail biting vertical drop of 945m. With uphill capacity of 59,000 riders an hour, this mountain has the infrastructure to get you skiing fast – whether you’re looking for a mellow slope, quad burning groomed runs, tree runs, chutes, double black diamonds… or simply to look out over the resort from above. Mammoth is part of the IKON pass, which means now you can explore more resorts in North America and Canada than ever before. ActivitiesThe options are endless when it comes to après activities – for a start, there’s snowmobiling, dog sledding, winter fishing, and cross-country skiing… then there’s Mammoth Unbound, which comprises nine parks with three half pipes, two acrobags, more than 100 jibs and 50 jumps, and for advanced freestylers, a 22-ft halfpipe and supersized jumps.Learning to ski? Choose from three main ski schools, and for kids under eight, there are two child care centres in different locations. Off the snow, there’s miniature golf, ice-skating, a bowling alley and Woolly Tubing Park, which is huge among families. All sounding too active? Relax in a day spa, enjoy some light shopping or take a day trip out of the resort to enjoy the picturesque national parks and reserves nearby. Getting There & AroundGrab a daily flight to Mammoth during the winter from San Diego, LA, San Francisco or Denver. From here, it’s just 10 minutes by shuttle to the mountain. Alternatively, fly into the Reno-Tahoe International Airport then rent a car and enjoy a picturesque three-hour drive. Driving from LA takes about six hours, or seven hours from San Francisco.Once you’re in Mammoth, you’ll find the base areas are spread out.
