Accommodation Telluride

Telluride is a destination. Here you can choose from boutique lodges or full-service hotels in the town – just a short walk from the lifts, or Mountain Village, where you’ll find some great ski-in-ski-out options. While the village has a few restaurants, shops and bars, if you’re here to enjoy the nightlife, make sure you stay near the centre of the town. Here you’ll be spoilt for choice by the fantastic restaurants and bars. The great news is that when you’re in Telluride you won’t need a car – the town is pedestrian friendly and there’s a free gondola that links to the two towns and runs every day from 6:30am until midnight, which offers incredible views along the way. If you are staying outside the town, jump aboard a free bus.

Skiing & Boarding

Telluride offers a sensational skiing or boarding experience for all abilities; nearly 60% of the terrain is for beginners and intermediates, with plenty of advanced runs for those seeking more challenging terrain. Beginners will enjoy the progressive gentle runs located around the Mountain Village, which are designed to build confidence and competence. Further up the mountain, intermediate skiers and boarders will find incredible long groomed runs and easy off-piste areas, while higher up again and out the back, is the ultimate playground for advanced skiers. The challenges – let alone the views – will take your breath away as you steam down the alpine steeps, through powder bowls, and gnarly chutes, hit the moguls and navigate black and double black runs. Take a backpack, stash your skis and hike out further to experience the best lines you’ll find in Colorado.

Activities

Telluride and Mountain Village are purpose built for fun on and off the snow. Here you can experience snowmobiling, snowbiking, snowshoeing and even ice-climbing. More relaxed options include a spa treatment, or an outing to explore the many galleries and boutiques lining the streets of this historic mining town. A mix of childcare and ski lessons are available at the Kids Ski Cubs and they’re guaranteed to love getting involved in the supervised Afternoon Kids Club. The Kid's Night Out program is hugely popular and often includes dinner and a movie. If food is your passion, you’ll love the great mix of restaurants and bars… and then there’s Telluride’s vibrant but friendly nightlife to keep you going into the early hours.

Getting There & Around

Getting to Telluride is now easier than ever. With new and expanded air service added every year, travelers from Australia can conveniently fly nonstop to Los Angeles International (LAX) and San Francisco International (SFO), then to Montrose-Telluride Regional Airport (MTJ). Other options include air service from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) or Houston (IAH) into Montrose-MTJ.

It’s a favourite of mine for its dramatic scenery, large varied terrain, world-class accommodation and dining, and a gondola that runs until midnight! Don’t miss a stop at the on-mountain Alpino Vino (wonderful Italian food and sunnies provided if lunching al fresco), or if French more your style ski by Bon Vivant. The cosmos at Cosmopolitan in Telluride town are the business and a steak at the famous Chop House at the New Sheridan Hotel is not to be missed! Burgers at the Floradora Saloon washed down with a horseradish-infused Bloody Mary are highly recommended too
